FAQ
ILL -- LIBIDs

Question:  What is a LIBID?  What should I do if I have forgotten my LIBID?

Answer:

A LIBID (Library ID) is a 6-letter code that identifies institutions in the National Library of Medicine's DOCLINE system.  The LIBID is linked to a library's institution record and is required to place an interlibrary loan request with NLM.

If you have never placed interlibrary loan requests with NLM before, and would like to learn more about doing so, see the Interlibrary Loan Fact Sheet here:  http://www.nlm.nih.gov/pubs/factsheets/ill.html.

If you have forgotten your LIBID or are unsure whether your library has one, please use our Contact the National Library of Medicine form to ask for assistance.
