	Building Local Conflict Management Capacity in the “Three Areas” In the Comprehensive Peace Agreement, signed in January of 2005, the contentious "Three Areas" of Sudan—Abyei, Southern Kordofan and Blue Nile—were set aside for special treatment. To help prepare the citizens of the Three Areas for these new processes, USIP conducts capacity-building workshops to help manage and prevent violent conflict.
	Center for Mediation and Conflict Resolution USIP experts work on active conflicts, supporting training and education, developing tools for practitioners and identifying best practices for ending violence.
	Conflict Prevention Strategies in the 21st Century The threats and opportunities of the 21st century demand that increased attention be paid to practical questions about how to design and implement effective prevention strategies—beyond continual calls to "act early," instill a "culture of prevention," and, above all, mobilize "political will." To this end, USIP is currently developing intellectual capital on evidence-based prevention, early warning, and the prevention of mass atrocities.
	Darfur Disapora Consultation 2010 USIP is actively working with the Darfurian Diaspora to discuss issues related to the conflct situation in Darfur. In January 2010 USIP convened Darfurians from the North-America-based Diaspora, one representative from the European Diaspora, and another from Cairo, for a two-day consultation focused on the role of civil society in any peace process, the role of external actors, and the next steps in moving the peace process forward.
	Dean Acheson Lecture In honor of former Secretary of State Dean Acheson’s service to the United States and the cause of peace and innovation in peacemaking, USIP initiated this lecture series to deal with the important topics of the day. The lecture series helps call attention to topics that further the mission of USIP: preventing and resolving violent international conflicts, promoting post-conflict stability and development, and increasing conflict management capacity, tools, and intellectual capital worldwide.
	Iraq Study Group The Iraq Study Group made a forward-looking, independent assessment of the current and prospective situation on the ground in Iraq and how it affects the surrounding region as well as U.S. interests. The effort was undertaken at the urging of several members of Congress with agreement of the White House. A final report was released to Congress, the White House, and the public on December 6, 2006.
	Justice and Security Dialogue Justice and Security Dialogue brings together stakeholders at the local community level to strengthen rule of law and security by building lines of communication, increasing trust, sharing information, promoting accountability, and providing input on justice and security reform needs and options.
	Managing a Mediation Process: Web Handbook This is the online version of USIP's "Managing a Mediation Process," the first handbook in the Peacemaker's Toolkit series. The online version includes the full text of the handbook, along with links to additional resources on each sub-topic.
	Media, Conflict and Peacebuilding This Center of Innovation focuses on harnessing the power of the media for peacebuilding, and on developing new strategies for countering the abuse of media during conflict.
	Mediation in Colombia The Mediation in Colombia project is designed to generate discussion about Colombia’s past efforts to resolve its longstanding internal armed conflict.
