National Gallery of Art Offers Activities Related to "Jasper Johns: An Allegory of Painting, 1955–1965"
January 28–April 29, 2007

Washington, DC – The National Gallery of Art will offer a diverse program of lectures, films, and concerts in conjunction with Jasper Johns: An Allegory of Painting, 1955–1965 (January 28–April 29, 2007), the first exhibition to examine the themes developed in Johns’ first decade including some of his most iconic paintings, drawings, and prints.

This workshop introduces the complex and multi-dimensional art of American modernist Jasper Johns. Focusing on the decade 1955–1965 and drawing on two concurrent exhibitions of his work—one devoted to prints, the other to paintings—participants will explore the evolution of his imagery and the insights it offers into Johns’ philosophy about art and making art.
