Always Improving Performance

The Greening Diplomacy Initiative (GDI) was launched by Secretary Clinton on April 22, 2009 to improve the environmental performance and sustainability of the State Department’s world-wide facilities and operations. The initiative develops and implements department–wide policies and actions to reduce the State Department’s environmental footprint and costs; placing the environment at the forefront of our foreign policy agenda. As the Department represents the nation’s political, economic and cultural interests abroad, the Department will continue to project America’s values of environmental and sustainable performance in its mission and operations.
