In states with secondary laws (including one state with no adult seat belt law), male seat belt use was 73% and female seat belt use was 85%. Seat belt use in states varies by age group and type of law. In states with primary laws, for adults 18-24 years seat belt use was 81%, for adults 25-34 years seat belt use was 86%, and for adults 35 years and older seat belt use was 90%. In states with secondary laws (including one state with no adult seat belt law), for adults 18-24 years seat belt use was 67%, for adults 25-34 years seat belt use was 76%, and for adults 35 years and older seat belt use 82%.
