Environmental Technology Verification (ETV) Program

The EPA's Environmental Technology Verification (ETV) Program was formed in 1994 based on the environmental technology initiatives expressed by the President's Bridge to a Sustainable Future and the Vice-President's National Performance Review. These initiatives expressed a need by the U.S. to accelerate the development of environmental technology through objective verification and reporting of technology performance data. Information on the performance of advanced monitoring systems is an urgent concern of the U.S. and other world economies since many technology buyers, the consulting engineering community that advises them, permitters at state, local, and federal levels, and financial investment communities need an objective source (third-party verification) of data to make informed purchasing decisions. There currently are 12 existing technology areas in the ETV program of which the Advanced Monitoring Systems (AMS) pilot is the only one focused on verifying advanced monitoring systems for air, water and soil (i.e. ambient air/source emissions; drinking/ground/ surface/marine water; soil contamination monitoring). To support this endeavor, the AMS pilot is constantly looking for those commercially available environmental monitoring systems that characterize the extent of environmental quality in our air, water, and soil with the intent to verify and provide performance data to all interested customers.

For specific information on air monitoring technologies being verified or being sought for verification, visit the "Advanced Monitoring System" website. For further information on all ETV programs, visit the general website "Environmental Technology Verification". Participation in the ETV program is strictly voluntary.
