The number of persons known to be involved in the 1,609 robberies, burglaries, and larcenies was 1,959. The following table shows a breakdown of the 1,959 persons who have been identified by race and sex. In a small number of cases, the use of full disguise makes determination of race and sex impossible.

Investigation to date has resulted in the identification of 718 (37 percent) of the 1,959 persons known to be involved. Of these 718 identified persons, 310 (43 percent) were determined to be users of narcotics, and 154 (21 percent) were found to have been previously convicted in either federal or state court for bank robbery, bank burglary, or bank larceny.

Injuries, Deaths, and Hostages Taken
Acts of violence were committed during 54 (3.4 percent) of the 1,609 robberies, burglaries, and larcenies which occurred during this three-month period. These acts included six instances involving the discharge of firearms, 41 instances involving assaults, and eight instances of hostage situations. (One or more acts of violence may occur during an incident.) These acts of violence resulted in 21 injuries, five deaths, and 18 persons being taken hostage.
