Civil and Mechanical Engineering : Summer Opportunities

Summer Opportunities - AIAD

What is Academic Individual Advanced Development (AIAD)?

Engineering majors participate in the USMA AIAD program every summer within military units, governmental agencies, and private industry in the U.S. and elsewhere.

Cadets work alongside of world-class professional engineers and researchers, gaining invaluable knowledge of and insight into the facilities, methods and procedures used to design, test and improve Army systems.

Cadets apply what is learned in the classroom to real research and engineering problems. The typical AIAD lasts 3-4 weeks.

How do I sign up?

Engineering majors are eligible to participate during the summer before their 1st or 2nd class year. A briefing will take place in January to provide details and a list of approved AIAD opportunities for Summer. The suspense to indicate your preference will be in late January. First preference is given based on class ranking, but there are plenty of AIADs.
