The National Women’s Prison Project (NWPP) was established in 2003 after seeing the need for services solely for the almost “invisible” females in prison. NWPP meets the needs of women transitioning from incarceration to the community by linking them to a continuum of transitional services that includes job training, anger management, parenting classes, clothing assistance and many of the soft skills needed to integrate successfully back into society. Using a gender-based approach, NWPP provides on-going classes, both inside correctional facilities and after release. Once released, an individualized “plan of success” (IPS) is created for each participant to achieve the basics--housing, job training, substance treatment, health referrals and reunification efforts with the entire family.
Started in 2003

Who is helped?

NWPP provides direct services and referrals to women who are incarcerated or have been released. Capacity: 300-400 women served per year.
