Imperiled Species

The USGS Wildlife Program conducts investigations relevant to management of the Endangered Species Act (ESA), the Marine Mammal Protection Act (MMPA), and similar State laws and regulations. USGS has no management authority under these acts, yet our science is critical to their implementation. USGS science underpins these laws through activities such as population estimation and monitoring, determination of limiting factors, and restoration science.
