The Man This bronze medal, a duplicate of the Congressional Gold Medal awarded to Arnold Palmer, recognizes and honors his service to the Nation in promoting excellence and good sportsmanship in golf. His many accomplishments include:
The Medal The obverse (heads side), designed and sculpted by United States Mint Sculptor-Engraver Don Everhart, features an image of Arnold Palmer finishing his golf swing with the inscription ARNOLD D. PALMER. The reverse (tails), designed by United States Mint Sculptor-Engraver Phebe Hemphill and sculpted by United States Mint Sculptor-Engraver Joseph Menna, depicts a pair of crossed golf clubs and a golf ball on a tee with the inscriptions IN RECOGNITION OF HIS SERVICE TO THE NATION IN PROMOTING EXCELLENCE AND GOOD SPORTSMANSHIP, 92 PROFESSIONAL GOLF VICTORIES and 7 MAJOR CHAMPIONSHIPS.
