These lessons are designed for classrooms preparing for a ranger visit; however, they may be modified for any classroom. (Topics: geology, bison, fossils)

K-8 Secrets of the Past Video Lesson
Students gain an understanding and appreciation of Badlands Earth history by watching a six-minute ranger video and completing the suggested activities. (Topics: geology, fossils)

K-5 Kylie's Fossil Find
Students explore the real-life fossil discovery made by seven year old Kylie Ferguson through literacy activities.

7-12 Swift Fox Curriculum Unit
This life science curriculum unit uses research data from the swift fox restoration program to explore topics such as populations, ecological interdependence, and the job of wildlife biologists.

4 Walk the Badlands Health & Fitness Program

Early motorist meanders through the Upper Tunnel

Did You Know?
Early motorists along the Badlands Loop Road traveled through tunnels carved into the formations. Since the road’s layout defied engineering logic by being based on scenery rather than stability, the road is constantly shifting. Though the tunnels are long gone, the sense of adventure remains.
