Digital Interlibrary Loan

When the Library of Congress receives interlibrary loan requests for small items too fragile to circulate, it scans the items and makes those in the public domain available online. Two works of poetry currently online through this process are:

Lost Titles, Forgotten Rhymes: Finding Poems

Part of a guide intended to help readers identify a literary work when they know only its plot or subject, or other textual information such as a character's name, a line of poetry, or a unique word or phrase.

Lyrical Legacy

Lyrical Legacy helps teachers explore eighteen American songs and poems from the digital collections of the Library of Congress. Each song and poem is represented by an original primary source document, along with historical background information and, in many cases, sound recordings and alternate versions.

The National Jukebox

The National Jukebox makes historical sound recordings available to the public free of charge. It currently includes more than 10,000 recordings made by the Victor Talking Machine Company between 1901 and 1925. A number of these recordings are poetry recitations, such as De Wolf Hopper's reading of "Casey at the Bat"Taylor Holmes's readings of "Gunga Din" and "The Shooting of Dan McGrew," and William Sterling Battis's reading of "Paul Revere's Ride."

The South Asian Literary Recordings Project
