Visitor Centers

Visitor centers in Fairbanks, Yukon Crossing, and Coldfoot, offer good sources of up-to-date information and helpful advice for Dalton Highway travelers. 

Arctic Interagency Visitor Center - Coldfoot

The Arctic Interagency Visitor Center is located in Coldfoot (milepost 175). In 2012 the center will be open daily, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., from May 25 through September 10.  Here you can find award-winning interpretive exhibits and information on the region's history, natural environment, and recreation opportunities. The center is a partnership between the Bureau of Land Management, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and the National Park Service. The center hosts an Alaska Geographic Association bookstore.

This BLM contact station is located at the Yukon River, Dalton Highway milepost 56. To reach it, cross under the trans-Alaska pipeline at the north end of the Yukon River Bridge. The contact station is open daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. from late May to September and is staffed by friendly BLM volunteers. A short walking trail leads to viewing decks overlooking the Yukon River. The station also sells select items from the Alaska Geographic Association.

Alaska Public Lands Information Center (APLIC) - Fairbanks

This interagency visitor center is located in downtown Fairbanks inside the Morris Thompson Cultural and Visitors Center at 101 Dunkel Street. APLIC provides information on all public lands in northern Alaska. During the summer APLIC is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily. Winter hours are from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Saturday. Call the center at 907-459-3730 or contact by email at fair_interpretation@nps.gov.
