The Department of State’s Bureau of International Security and Nonproliferation (ISN) and the Department of Homeland Security’s Customs and Border Protection are coordinating an International Visitors Leadership Program for senior-level Afghan and Pakistani customs and border enforcement officials from November 12 through November 22, 2011. The objective of this visit, funded by the Department of State’s Export Control and Related Border Security (EXBS) program, is to facilitate mutual cooperation and capacity building among the delegation’s participants.
Assistant Secretary Thomas M. Countryman from the Bureau of International Security and Nonproliferation will welcome the delegation on November 14. The delegation will also meet senior-level officials from the Department of Homeland Security.
During their visit to the United States, the Afghan and Pakistani delegation will tour U.S. federal training facilities and air and land ports of entry. In addition, they will visit border patrol sectors on the southwest border of the U.S. to observe border and customs operations between the U.S. and Mexico. This trip will help strengthen ongoing customs and border cooperation between the Afghan and Pakistani governments.
