Classes on National Library of Medicine Websites and Databases

The National Network of Libraries of Medicine, New England Region, invites you to host a guest speaker.  Our trainers teach MedlinePlus and PubMed, TOXNET as well as other National Library of Medicine websites and databases.  The National Library of Medicine also offers free resources to learn more about senior health, clinical trials, drug information, public health, and environmental health and toxicology.  Please find below descriptions of some of our primary resources.

MedlinePlusMedlinePlus is the National Library of Medicine’s website for patients and their families and friends.  It provides information about diseases, conditions, and wellness issues. MedlinePlus offers reliable, up-to-date health information, anytime, anywhere for free.  You can use MedlinePlus to learn about the latest treatments, look up information on a drug or supplement, find out the meanings of words or view medical videos or illustrations.  You can also get links to the latest medical research on your topic and sign up for updates on health topics that matter to you.

PubMedPubMed is a bibliographic database of the biomedical literature that includes the fields of medicine, nursing, dentistry, veterinary medicine, the health care system, and preclinical sciences, as well linking to online books.  PubMed is a good source for research papers and projects.  All National Library of Medicine resources are free and can be accessed online anywhere, anytime.

TOXNET is a database of toxicology, hazardous chemicals, environmental health and toxic releases. TOXNET includes ChemIDplus, HSDB, TOXLINE, CCRIS, DART, GENETOX, IRIS, ITER, Lactmed, TRI, HazMap, the Household Products Database, and ToxMap.

NN/LM classes are customized for each audience.  We offer a variety of lengths of presentations ranging from 45 minutes for a basic demonstration of one of our resources to 4 hour programs in computer labs.
