USS Taylor Arrives in Brest, France
BREST, France – USS Taylor (FFG 50) pulled into Brest, France, for a quality of life port visit nearing the end of her six-month deployment, Sept. 26.
Taylor’s visit to Brest is a chance for her crew to relax and experience the French culture.
“This is our second stop in France during this deployment,” said Yeoman 3rd Class Jeremy Tenney. “I am really looking forward to some down time and a chance to experience the French culture.”
The highlight of the visit for Taylor’s crew members will be a tour of Normandy hosted by the ships Morale, Welfare and Recreation committee, which will include a visit to a local museum, cemetery, battlefields and beaches.
Normandy was the site of the allied invasion on June 6, 1944, which marked the beginning of the end of Germany’s conquest of Europe during World War II.
“It is very humbling to walk in the footsteps of those who played such a key part in the liberation of Europe,” said Navy Counselor 1st Class Rob Ehrhart. “Especially since my grandfather served in the Army during World War II in the European theater.”
Upon completion of her visit to Brest, Taylor expects to begin the final leg of her six-month deployment.
Taylor, an Oliver Hazard Perry-class frigate, is home ported in Mayport, Fla., and is currently on a scheduled six-month deployment in the 6th fleet area of responsibility.
