Proposed Lower San Pedro River Collaborative Conservation Initiative Opens Scoping Process
The Southwest Region of the Service is considering establishment of a collaborative conservation initiative and new national wildlife refuge along the Lower San Pedro River in Cochise, Pima and Pinal Counties, Arizona. The initiative would be entirely voluntary and have no regulatory components. The San Pedro River is nationally recognized for its high values for migratory birds, biological diversity, and supporting a substantial part of the population for endangered southwestern willow flycatchers. Scoping seeks to elicit issues that the Service will address in its planning documents.

*These plans were completed prior to passage of the Refuge Improvement Act of 1997, but meet all the Refuge Improvement Act requirements including National Environmental Policy Act compliance. They considered the ecological context of the refuge, and set goals, objectives and strategies. These plans are considered to fulfill requirements of the Act for CCPs. They will be the first plans to undergo revisions following the completion of all other stations. |
