In order to support local authorities in developing environmental quality management plans through multi-sectoral and multi-stakeholder collaboration, the Ministry of Environment, Energy and Telecommunications of Costa Rica (MINAET) released a training manual entitled “Governance and Environmental Quality Management”. 6 July 2011, Geneva, Switzerland. UNITAR Executive Director took part in the meeting of Principals of ‘ECESA Plus’ that gathered in Geneva on 6 July. One of the main objectives of the meeting was to advance preparations by the UN system for the 2012 UN Conference on Sustainable Development, Rio+20. More specifically, the focus of the meeting was on concrete suggestions and contributions of UN organizations for the outcome document and initiatives to be launched in Rio next year. Read More
The 2011 Report of the Secretary-General (E/2011/115) has been released and will be presented at the 2011 substantive session of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) in July. The report responds to resolution 2009/27, which was adopted at the 2009 substantive session of the Council and calls on the Institute to continue with progress in the areas of results-based management, quality standards and certification, and the expanded use of technology-enhanced training and learning tools.
The 2011 UNITAR Fellowship for Afghanistan was successfully launched in Kabul recently with Workshop I, which took place from 16 - 22 May. A flagship programme for the Institute’s Hiroshima Office since its inception seven years ago, the 2011 programme sees 65 senior government officials and civil society leaders selected to participate as Fellows and Coaches from a pool of more than 300 applicants. UNITAR organises this seven-month long training programme in partnership with the Afghanistan Civil Service Commission and the Afghan Civil Service Institute.
