UPDATE NOTICE

FUNDING FOR THE FLAP PROGRAM WAS ELIMINATED IN THE FINAL FISCAL YEAR (FY) 2012 BUDGET ENACTED BY CONGRESS. THERE IS NO 2012 NEW COMPETITION AND NO CONTINUED FUNDING FOR CURRENT GRANTEES.


Program Description

This program provides grants to establish, improve, or expand innovative foreign language programs for elementary and secondary school students. In awarding grants under this program, the secretary of education supports projects that: (a) show the promise of being continued beyond their project period and (b) demonstrate approaches that can be disseminated and duplicated by other LEAs.


Types of Projects

The program supports foreign language instruction in K-12 schools, immersion programs, curriculum development, professional development, and distance learning.
