FWS Mission

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (Service) is a Bureau within the Department of the Interior (Department) whose mission is working with others to conserve, protect and enhance fish, wildlife, plants, and their habitats for the continuing benefit of the American people.

The Information Resources and Technology Management Mission

The Information Resources and Technology Management (IRTM) program is responsible for maintaining and enhancing management of the Service's information resources and technology, providing customer support, and developing policies, procedures, and guidance in support of the Service's mission.

Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Strategic Plan

The Geospatial Services Strategic Plan (PDF), dated March 24, 2010, describes our geospatial goals and objectives for fiscal years 2010 through 2014. This plan encompasses the goals and objectives in the Service IRTM Strategic Plan and replaces the previous GIS Strategic Plan for fiscal years 2005 through 2009.
