Dr. Dell W. McMullen

ARLINGTON, VA — June 25, 2010 — The Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) announced the selection of Dr. Dell W. McMullen as the Superintendent of the Kaiserslautern School District in Kaiserslautern, Germany. DoDEA operates 190 schools overseas and on military bases throughout the United States, its territories and Cuba. These schools serve more than 84,000 children of military families. “Dr. McMullen is an excellent choice to lead our Kaiserslautern District,” said Charlie Toth, Deputy Director, DoDEA. “She is a proven leader with many years of experience as a Superintendent and we are looking forward to seeing her apply her skills and expertise to a new environment.”

McMullen served as the District Superintendent of DoDEA’s Georgia/Alabama District at Fort Benning, Ga. since 2002. Prior to that, she held the position of Superintendent of DoDEA’s Fort Benning Schools as well as Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction. She also served as the Principal of DoDEA’s Frank R. Loyd School at Fort Benning.
Prior to her time with DoDEA, McMullen was the Assistant Principal, Blanchard School and the Director, Health Improvement Program in the Muscogee County School District, Columbus, Ga. She began her teaching career in 1973 as a Teacher, Math, Science, Compensatory Education, and Physical Education teacher for fourth through sixth grades for the Muscogee County School District, Columbus, Georgia.
“I have been at Fort Benning for the past 22 years, 16 of those years as superintendent, and have loved my time with the Georgia/Alabama District,” McMullen said. “Georgia/Alabama will always hold a special place in my heart.”

“I now look forward to working with the Kaiserslautern District,” McMullen said. “I hear many great things about the excellent work being done there, and look forward to being part of the Kaiserslautern team.”
DoDEA plans, directs, coordinates, and manages pre-kindergarten through 12th grade education programs for Department of Defense (DoD) dependents who would otherwise not have access to a high-quality, public education. DoDEA schools are located in Europe, the Pacific, the United States, Cuba, Guam and Puerto Rico. DoDEA also provides support and resources to Local Education Activities throughout the U.S. that serve children of military families.
