As Assistant Principal at Brewster Middle School, Mrs. Sholar serves as an educational leader for both students and teachers and has demonstrated success in various areas of collaborative leadership. "My philosophy is that in order to be an effective leader; you have to include stakeholders in problem-solving, setting school goals, and striving to reach them", says Sholar. "I've made it my goal to involve teachers, staff members, parents, students and the community in setting and achieving the goals of Brewster Middle School".

Mrs. Sholar earned her Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts degrees in Education from East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina. Prior to becoming assistant principal at Brewster Middle School, Mrs. Sholar served as assistant principal at Russell Elementary School at Camp Lejeune and as a Health Education teacher at Brewster.

"Mrs. Sholar has gained a well-deserved reputation as a powerful advocate for all that is best for students, teachers, parents, and the larger Camp Lejeune community" says Camp Lejeune Dependents Schools District Superintendent Robert Brinton. "In my 30 years as an educator, I have not come across a more complete and effective assistant principal".

Each of the 50 states, the District of Columbia, and the Department of Defense Education Activity will select an assistant principal to represent its state. From these state winners, three finalists are selected to compete for the title of the National Association of Secondary School Principals Assistant Principal of the Year.
