The DoDEA Communications Office initiates and manages DoDEA's communications and outreach efforts worldwide. The office coordinates press relations, internal information programs and communication with students, parents, teachers, school administrators and the public.

ARLINGTON, VIRGINIA — June 6, 2005 — The Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) proudly announces that Nancy Maldonado has been named 2005 DoDEA Middle School Principal of the Year. Ms. Maldonado is the principal at Antilles Middles School in Puerto Rico. The Secondary School Principal of the Year Program is sponsored by the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP).

Ms. Maldonado received her Bachelor of Arts in Secondary Education from the University of Puerto Rico, and her Masters of Education in Urban Education/Bilingual Education from the University of Hartford.

Ms. Maldonado's 19 years experience as a principal has helped her get the mission accomplished. "Through tenacity, hard work, effective leadership and a clear sense of mission, I, together with my staff and parents, have been able to plan and implement several innovative programs" says Maldonado.

Parents have expressed their gratitude towards Ms. Maldonado and say that she "always creates an environment that encourages and rewards cooperation, collective problem-solving and participative decision-making." "We are glad to honor Ms. Maldonado for all she has done for her students and for DoDE" said DoDEA Director, Dr. Joe Tafoya.
