Three Teachers from DoDDS Pacific Receive Presidential Awards

March 21, 2003 — The Department of Defense Dependents Schools (DoDDS) Pacific Director’s Office recently learned that three Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) educators from the Pacific were selected for the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST). The selection committee for the National Science Institute has selected teachers from C. T. Joy Elementary School, Chinhae, Korea; Seoul Middle School, Seoul, Korea; and Guam High School, Guam, for this outstanding award.

The Presidential Award is the nation’s highest honor for teachers of mathematics and science in grades K–12. Each winner will receive a $7,500 grant from the National Science Foundation to the recipient’s school to be used under the recipient’s discretion, and an expense-paid trip to engage in activities in Washington, DC, during which each Presidential recipient will be presented with an award certificate signed by the President of the United States.

“We are very proud of these DoDDS Pacific educators. This award is a credit to our educators and their pursuit of educational excellence,” stated Dr. Steven Bloom, Deputy Director, DoDDS Pacific.
