National Day on Writing

Make Plans Now to Celebrate NCTE's Fourth Annual
National Day on Writing on Saturday, October 20, 2012!

Recognizing the importance of writing in the lives of us all, NCTE established and celebrated its first National Day on Writing on October 20, 2009. In 2011, at NCTE's request, the U.S. Senate passed Resolution S.298 declaring October 20 the National Day on Writing!

Though the National Day on Writing falls on a Saturday this year, NCTE encourages schools to recognize the day when it's convenient for them, either during the week before or after October 20; public libraries and communities are welcome to do the same or to hold celebrations on Saturday, October 20.

Since the National Gallery of Writing opened on October 20, 2009, more than 3,300 galleries have been created and nearly 33,000 writing contributions have been submitted.
As of July 1, 2012, the Gallery will become a searchable archive; new submissions will not be accepted but NCTE will continue to review and approve, as appropriate, those writing contributions received before July 1.
