Award Report: Crouse Hospital Partners with the VNA of CNY

Friday, February 11th, 2011

Crouse Hospital Library recently partnered with the Visiting Nurse Association of Central New York to provide online resources and training for PubMed and MedlinePlus for their nursing, rehabilitation and administrative staff.  The VNA of CNY provides home health care services to a variety of patients, from newborns to the elderly, for well care to acute and chronic care. In order for this agency to keep pace with advances in patient care, the staff need access to current medical and nursing information. As Lynne Bird, Director of Education at the VNA of CNY stated, “Staff need access to information immediately, at their fingertips, so that they can utilize current health information to ensure quality patient care.” Unfortunately, due to budget constraints, the VNA of CNY has been unable to keep pace with access to needed current information.

This partnership provided resources needed to utilize evidence based best practice protocols, patient education resources, and continuing education materials.  Additionally, the grant offered access to the Library and Librarians who offered research expertise.

My awareness of the products and services offered has improved greatly…I have increased my use of these products as a result of taking the class.  It was great.  I never knew so much information was out there for me to utilize.  I am very appreciative of the opportunity.
