We welcome the talks that UN Secretary General Ban ki-Moon will undertake with Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot leaders in New York January 23-24. The United States strongly supports the negotiations under the auspices of the United Nations Secretary General’s Good Offices Mission. We urge the leaders to seize this important opportunity to make real and substantial progress toward a settlement reunifying the island as a bi-zonal, bi-communal federation.
