Question: Do you have any comments regarding the renewal of the agreement with Japan concerning funding to host U.S. bases?

Answer: Japan’s direct financial support through the Host Nation Support Agreement is a tangible contribution to the US-Japan Alliance. Host nation support helps to secure regional stability and security, allows Japan to spend less on its defense, and – because the monies are recycled back into the Japanese economy – are a form of annual stimulus spending by the Japanese Government.
