Biostatistics and Information Management Office
CDC's lead group for statistical expertise for investigations into foodborne, waterborne, and environmental disease outbreaks, research studies, and surveillance data analyses.
Activities:
- Adapting existing analytical methodology and developing new techniques for statistical applications in the Division. The office works with epidemiologists and laboratory scientists on study design, sampling, bioassay, data analysis, statistical modeling, sampling strategies, and case/control methodology.
- Managing the collection of data through PHLIS (the Public Health Laboratory Information System) which is used to gather core surveillance data from public health laboratories around the country.
- Coordinating the dissemination of information to public health officials and researchers, offering training in statistical methods, and maintaining systems for collecting and processing the surveillance data gathered by the division's branches.
