Before & After the Shot(s)
- Preparing for vaccination
- Read the VIS* before you go!
- Bring your immunization record with you.
- Be honest with yourself, it may hurt a bit.
- During the shot: breathe slowly and deeply, listen to music, imagine your favorite activity.
- Take someone with you to the appointment for support.
- After the shot(s)
- Stay seated for 15 minutes after the shot to prevent fainting.
- Your arm will probably be a little sore/tender, red or swollen where the shot was given—which is a common reaction. A cool wet cloth on the spot might help.
- Take a non-aspirin pain reliever if arm pain persists.
