Special Envoy Hussain's Travel to Mecca

U.S. Special Envoy to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, Rashad Hussain, will attend the Fourth Extraordinary Session of the Islamic Summit Conference, August 14-15 in Mecca, Saudi Arabia as an observer. The Summit was called to discuss major issues in the Muslim world, including the crisis in Syria.

Special Envoy Hussain’s attendance demonstrates the United States’ commitment to working with our partners in the international community to support the aspirations of the Syrian people and bring additional pressure to bear on the Assad regime. Special Envoy Hussain will also hold bilateral meetings to discuss a number of issues including Syria and the democratic transitions in the Middle East and North Africa.
