Special Representative for Global Intergovernmental Affairs Reta Jo Lewis is traveling in Brazil, June 14-23. She is visiting the cities of Belo Horizonte and Rio de Janeiro.

While in Belo Horizonte, June 13-16, Special Representative Lewis will participate in the ICLEI (Local Governments for Sustainability) World Congress 2012. On June 14, in support of Global Economic Statecraft Day, she will deliver remarks to AC Minas, the state of Minas Gerais’ chamber of commerce.

Special Representative Lewis will serve as a member of the U.S. delegation to the UN Conference on Sustainable Development, Rio+20, which will take place in Rio de Janeiro, June 20-22. Three U.S. city and county officials will serve as private sector advisors to the delegation.

While in Rio de Janeiro, Special Representative Lewis will engage global state and local leaders through outreach events at the U.S. Center. On Saturday, June 16, 5:00-6:30 p.m., Special Representative Lewis will host “Green Growth: A State Perspective,” and, on Tuesday, June 19, 5:00-6:30 p.m., she will host, “Cities: Where the Rubber Meets the Road.” Both events will take place at the U.S. Center and will be open to media coverage.

Special Representative Lewis will meet with Brazilian state and local officials in Belo Horizonte and Rio de Janeiro.
