Counterinsurgency (COIN)
ADM002209
Fall 2009

The Pentagon has elevated the military’s mission of irregular warfare to an equal footing with traditional combat. Now, the U.S. military must confront the dangers associated with malevolent non-state actors as opposed to traditional force on force combat against other nations. Counterinsurgency (COIN) operations involve an understanding of the necessary tactics, training, and doctrine of past counterinsurgency movements to address the political, economic, psychological, and civic aspects of COIN operations in order to install an effective governance in a nation. The enclosed CD includes a sampling of full-text technical reports from DTIC’s extensive collection, an updated bibliography, and electronic references on the topic of COIN.

The DTIC® Review is compiled from recent technical reports in DTIC's database, and the selected documents and bibliography are representative of information available in DTIC's extensive collection. Additional references, including electronic resources, can be found at the end of the volume.
