Small Businesses can file W-2s electronically for free with Social Security. When you file electronically you receive an extra month, they’re not due to Social Security until March 31st , and you’ll also receive a free acknowledgment receipt.

Business Service Online offers two options to file W-2s electronically and other services.

If you don’t have payroll software, consider using the W-2 Online application which allows you to key your W-2 information directly to our website in the W-2 format and print these for your employees. It’s free and there are no special forms to buy.

If you use compatible payroll software, you can upload files using the Wage File Upload application. If you use payroll software, we recommend that you test it before filing using SSA’s free software Accuwage.

Business Services Online also offers W-2c Online if you need to correct any W-2 errors.

You can verify SSNs online by using Social Security Number Verification Service.
