Women join the Supervised Reentry Program (SRP) when they have 18 months or less left on their sentence, which they serve at the Lovelady facility. Alabama Department of Corrections decides which women participate in the SRP, with the stipulation that the woman has had no disciplinary action taken against her while incarcerated. A brief orientation is given to the women in the prison about the program and a Lovelady coordinator collects information on the program participants.
Within two weeks of entering the SRP, participants are placed in a job. These jobs are through contracts that the Lovelady Center has with local companies that provide living wages and benefits.
Women with substance abuse issues take part in an on-site state-certified treatment program that is typically more intense than what women receive at a regular transitional center.
After 90 days, women in the SRP are able to leave the facility with supervised sponsors and members of their immediate family. Their hourly passes gradually increase over time if they abide by the rules. Children can live with an SRP participants and Lovelady provides on-site childcare, family counseling, and child reunification services.
SRP also assists women in finding permanent housing. Many are referred to Shelter Plus, a housing center that works with a variety of non profits in the area, providing sober housing to people returning from prison. Educational opportunities are also provided, such GED certification and certified nursing and medical transcription licensing programs via an on-site secondary college.
