The Indiana Women’s Prison offers women an opportunity to foster a long-term bond with their children. The Wees Ones Nursery is considered a job for participating mothers – it is their primary responsibility to care for their children. Three professional organizations participate in this experience: two representatives visit the Wees Ones Nursery on a weekly basis, as well as a case worker from the county Department of Health and family therapist. Mothers are supported upon release from prison if they remain in the surrounding community after their release. Mothers are assisted with child development, healthy eating, sleeping and activities pertaining to parental bonding.
Started in 2008
