Shame Free Parenting is a 14-week course offered to women at the Hernando Correctional Institution. The purpose of the program is to break the cycle of dysfunction in a woman’s family. Women are taught that their parenting style is passed on from one generation to the next. They examine both the positive and negative aspects of how they were raised and how both carry over into their current parenting style. Women are shown methods regarding how to face their past and acknowledge their feelings about it. When finally able to forgive, they regain a sense of value and purpose, to be passed on to future generations.
