GIG is a gambling addiction group at York Correctional Facility. The group meets weekly for two hours and covers the following topics: the definition of gambling, the consequences of gambling, cross addictions (such as alcohol/other drugs and gambling), regaining self esteem, coping with guilt, shame and remorse, regaining trust and becoming trustworthy, returning to rational thinking, rebuilding relationships, finding hope, and coping with daily temptations. Training is also available to York correctional staff to increase knowledge of the disorder as well as to provide a continuity of care.
