About the National Institute of Corrections

We are an agency within the U.S. Department of Justice, Federal Bureau of Prisons. The Institute is headed by a Director appointed by the U.S. Attorney General. A 16-member Advisory Board, also appointed by the Attorney General, was established by the enabling legislation (Public Law 93-415) to provide policy direction to the Institute.

Matrix Partnership for Housing provides new housing to low-income women with children who are victims of homelessness and who have histories of substance abuse, domestic violence, and/or incarceration. The program receives referrals from community agencies and completes a thorough assessment to determine eligibility and ability to be successful in the program.
