Houses of Healing is a program offered to women in the Arlington County Detention Facility. This program is based in a curriculum created by Robin Casarjian's book "Houses of Healing: A Prisoner’s Guide to Inner Power and Freedom." The program uses the curriculum to instruct, encourage, and speak to women, providing a path to behavioral change, dignity, and respect—for oneself and for others. Furthermore, this program teaches incarcerated women how to confront issues that were central to their criminal and addictive behavior. Through group sessions and independent work, women learn how to deal constructively with conflict and hostility. They learn ways to break lifelong patterns of dysfunction in order to find greater emotional balance, a sense of self-esteem, and the power to choose positive behavior.
Started in 2003

Who is helped?

Incarcerated women (voluntary). Capacity: Up to 12 women served per session.
