GSA Announces Appointment of Bob Peck as Commissioner of Public Buildings

WASHINGTON — The U.S. General Services Administration today announced the appointment of Bob Peck to serve as the Commissioner of Public Buildings. As Commissioner, Peck will lead one of the largest real estate organizations in the world and be responsible for managing the federal government’s building portfolio.

Peck returns to GSA after previously serving as the Commissioner of Public Buildings during the Clinton administration. He will oversee an annual budget of more than $8 billion and a work force of more than 6,200. He will be in charge of nationwide asset management, design, construction, leasing, building management, security, and disposals for 354 million square feet of government-owned and leased space accommodating 1 million federal workers.

“I look forward to returning as the Commissioner of Public Buildings, the best job in real estate, and to getting back to creating public buildings worthy of the American people,” said Peck. “I am grateful for the opportunity to come back to help lead GSA’s important role in fulfilling the President’s Recovery agenda.”

Peck most recently served as Managing Director of Jones Lang LaSalle, where he advised corporations, governments, and nonprofit institutions on real estate portfolio strategy and on public-private, mixed-use developments.

Prior to working at GSA during the Clinton administration, Peck worked at the U.S. Office of Management and Budget, the National Endowment for the Arts, and the Federal Communications Commission. In addition, he was associate counsel to the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works and chief of staff to the late U.S. Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan, and was a special forces  officer in the U.S. Army Reserve. Peck has also been a land-use and real estate lawyer, president of the Greater Washington Board of Trade, and vice president for public affairs at the American Institute of Architects.

Peck received his Bachelor of Arts degree with distinction in economics from the University of Pennsylvania and a Juris Doctor from Yale Law School. He was a visiting Loeb fellow at Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design.
