GSA Awards Trusted Internet Connection (TIC) Contracts

WASHINGTON — The U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) awarded two managed trusted Internet protocol services (MTIPS) contracts, effective Feb. 27.

  • Qwest Government Services received an award as a contract modification on the Networx Universal contract, the second MTIPS award under this contract.
  • AT&T Corp received an award as a contract modification on the Networx Enterprise contract, in addition to their previous Networx Universal award made in December.  This is the first MTIPS award under the Networx Enterprise contract.

GSA developed MTIPS for the Networx contracts to allow agencies to physically and logically connect to the Internet in full compliance with the Office of Management and Budget’s trusted Internet connections (TIC) initiative (M-08-05).  MTIPS facilitates the reduction of internet connections in government networks and provides standard security services to all government users.

The managed trusted Internet protocol service under the Networx Universal contracts will include an Einstein Enclave (a computer network-intrusion detection system) and the following components:

  • Security operations center for agency protection;
  • Transport from the agency-wide area network to the TIC Portal;
  • Redundant internet access service;
  • Supply chain risk management requirements; and
  • Optional features to allow for agency unique requirements.

GSA will continue to evaluate MTIPS proposals from other Networx contractors and make more awards as soon as possible in early 2009.
