Project Findings: | Data not yet available |
Project Description: | This project will develop requirements for telecommunication systems then use a combination of wireless technologies (Dedicated Short Range Communication (DSRC), private systems such as local Wireless Fidelity (WiFi), and commercial services such as Third Generation (3G)/Fourth Generation (4G) cellular data, Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access (WiMAX), Long Term Evolution (LTE), Frequency Modulation (FM) radio, satellite radio, and other emerging services) to meet those requirements. The output will be a report that outlines several proposed approaches to addressing the telecommunication needs for Signal Phase and Timing (SPaT) applications. |

Goals: |
The key project objectives are:
1. Identify safety and mobility applications that will use Signal Phase and Timing (SPaT) data;
2. Establish well-documented wireless requirements for those applications with the buy-in of stakeholders;
3. Identify the existing and emerging communications technologies and commercial services that could have applicability;
4. Provide a mapping of existing and emerging wireless communications technologies to the identified applications;
5. Evaluate the ability of the different wireless technologies to provide the level of performance for the safety and mobility applications that use SPaT data; and
6. Identify and evaluate the operations and maintenance needs and challenges associated with utilization of the different communications technologies and services, including in a mixed environment.
