Project Description: | Recently, more emphasis has been placed on the use of lightweight or specified density concrete as a solution for several bridge applications. The properties of these materials facilitate deployment of structural components that weigh less, require smaller construction equipment, have extended span ranges, and have reduced inertia forces. The American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials specifications for designing with these materials have not been significantly updated since the 1960s. This work, along with the work of National Cooperative Highway Research Program Project 18-15, intends to update the specifications appropriately for the modern version of these materials. |
