- The purpose of this policy letter is to establish a uniform procedure for implementing the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) regulatory change for professional staff coverage for emergency departments in critical access hospitals (CAHs) with a bed size of 1-10 and that are located in frontier areas or remote locations.
