Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE) Testing

The Advanced Vehicle Testing Activity is tasked by the U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE) Vehicle Technology Program (VTP) to conduct various types of charging infrastructure testing and demonstration activities. The Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE) testing activities have historically included low to high power energy transfers from the electric grid and distributed energy sources to plug-in electric drive vehicles. The equipment testing includes wire-to-wire conductive energy transfer as well as wireless energy transfer capabilities. As testing completes, representative fact sheets and reports will be posted on these webpages that document the technologies tested in an independent and unbiased manner.

The Idaho National Laboratory is conducting this work with various electric utility and manufacturing partners, as well as the AVTA testing partner ECOtality. Note that additional charging infrastructure testing is ongoing as part of the EV Project. However, this work is being conducted as part of the Idaho National Laboratory's support to the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA), and this is reported on the nearby ARRA webpages. This work supports the increasing use of electricity as transportation fuel which further supports the DOE goals of reducing the United States' dependency on foreign petroleum and enhances the overall security of the United States.
