Technology Assessment & Research (TA&R) Program

Project Number 265
Date of Summary February 3, 2005
Subject Reliability of Corroded Pipelines
Performing Activity Det Norske Veritas-Hovik
Principal Investigator Mr. Ola Halluaro Bjornoy
Contracting Agency Minerals Management Service
Estimated Completion Complete
Description This is a Joint Industry Project (JIP) on the reliability of corroded pipelines. This project sought to develop reliability methods for the assessment of pipeline corrosion, considering the uncertainties of inspections and estimation of burst strength and corrosion-rate. This project was designed for the development of pipeline design rules and pipeline operation and maintenance.
Progress The BG and DNV unified guideline was completed and printed and will form the basis of a DNV guideline for the assessment of corrosion in line pipe available to the public.
