The Schuylkill County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) of directs, controls, and coordinates response efforts on behalf of the County Commissioners during a major disaster. The Agency also assists both public and private entities in developing mitigation plans to lesson the impact of disasters, through hazardous identification and risk assessment.
The Emergency Management Agency is responsible for maintaining emergency plans for a variety of natural and man-made disasters. These plans include the periodic review of:
- 67 Municipal Emergency Operation Plans
- Over 90 SARA (Superfund Amendment Reauthorization Act) Sites Community Emergency Response Plans
- 2 Nuclear Power Plant Support County Response Plans
- Dam Emergency Action Plans
- As well as plans for other organizations and facilities within our community
In the event of an emergency involving 2 or more municipalities within our County, the Emergency Management Agency will activate the Schuylkill County Emergency Operations Center (EOC) to coordinate response and recovery efforts for local governments with the County, State and Federal authorities. The EOC is fully equipped with dedicated communication, computer and satellite links to assist the EOC staff in an emergency situation. Activities within the EOC are done in close cooperation with the County Commissioners, municipal emergency management agencies, and emergency responder organizations throughout the County.
The Emergency Management Agency provides training for local municipal officials, emergency management personnel and their staff. Emergency Management also serves as liaison for training events hosted by the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency (PEMA).
The Emergency Management Agency normal business hours are Monday to Friday from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM.
