Rep. Vicky Hartzler (R-MO) delivered this week’s address on the House’s efforts to jumpstart our nation’s sluggish economy. Republicans in the House have stopped a small business tax hike scheduled for January 1st, passed more than 30 jobs bills that eliminate excessive red tape, empower small businesses, and approve the Keystone XL pipeline. In addition, they have also passed a budget that fixes our dysfunctional tax code, pays down our debt, and strengthens Medicare. And while our nation’s suffers under a historic drought, the House has passed a measure that will help devastated farmers during this time. House Republicans have acted. Senate Democrats and the president must do the same.

President Obama’s policies have failed and have made our economy worse. He’s invested taxpayers' money into failed projects, rejected domestic energy production and wants to raise taxes to increase government spending. Because he can’t stand on his record, he is resorting to the politics of envy and division, oftentimes promoting his policies as “fair.”

President Obama calls for fairness, but ironically his failed policies are anything but fair to Americans who are trying to find work and make ends meet in this economy. 

House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA) delivered this week's address on the House's recent action to stop the tax hike and roll back burdensome regulations on America's small businesses. National unemployment has remained above 8% for 42 consecutive months under the current administration. Now is not the time to raise taxes on anyone. 

If Congress doesn't act, everyone will see their taxes increase on January 1, 2013. Last week, Senate Democrats passed the president's plan to raise taxes on more than 900,000 small businesses. House Republicans believe that no one should see their taxes go up during the worst unemployment crisis since the Great Depression. That's why we're voting to #StopTheTaxHike on every hardworking American taxpayer and small business and move forward with comprehensive tax reform. 

House Republicans are committed to stopping Democrats' massive year-end tax hike that would cost more than 700,000 American jobs. 

President Obama's rhetoric on his tax policies has contradicted the tepid growth of our economy. Today's report from the Commerce Department shows that growth of U.S. gross domestic product (GDP) sank to 1.5% in the second quarter of 2012--similar to the growth rate in 2009 when the president said, "You don't raise taxes in the middle of a recession." Now, the president and Senate Democrats want to raise taxes on hundreds of thousands of small businesses--a tax hike that would destroy more than 700,000 jobs. Now is not the time to raise taxes on anyone. That is why the House will vote to #StopTheTaxHike next week.

House Republican Conference Chairman Jeb Hensarling (R-Texas) today released a video detailing House Republicans’ commitment to stop the president and Senate Democrats’ small business tax hike set to take effect at the end of this year.

“House Republicans stand with the American people who know that you cannot help the job seeker by punishing the job creator with a massive new tax burden,” Hensarling said. “That is why the House is taking action to stop this dangerous automatic tax hike.”

“Soon we will vote on the Job Protection and Recession Prevention Act which would stop all of the job-killing tax increases that are set to occur in January. By doing so, we would restore much of the confidence that job creators desperately need to grow their businesses, invest more capital, and put more Americans back to work.” 

This afternoon, House Republicans held a press conference detailing the Red Tape Reduction and Small Business Job Creation Act, a piece of legislation that combines seven bills designed to address the Administration's excessive and overly burdensome regulatory policies that have made the economy worse. 

As the Obama administration's massive regulatory increases threaten to strangle American job creators with more Washington red tape, House Republicans remain focused on jobs and the economy. This week, the House will consider H.R. 4078, the Red Tape Reduction and Small Business Job Creation Act. This legislation is a combination of bills which is aimed at cutting government red tape to make it easier for small businesses to create jobs.
